Types Of  Injuries we treat at The Physio Guys.

WRIST PAIN (RADICULOPATHY)

How we treat wrist pain caused by nerve irritation:

As a lot of wrist pain is actually caused by nerve impingement (related to poor posture, please see Causes of Wrist Pain), treatment will be focused around releasing the area of compression. Once this is achieved, normal nerve dynamics will return and pain should diminish.

UPPER BACK PAIN

How We Treat Upper Back Pain:

Upper back pain generally settles quickly through a combination of the correct physiotherapy techniques with significant improvements expected after just one session. Usually the pain is caused by stiffness in the vertebrae of the spine and muscle spasm. Treatment will be focused around increasing vertebral movement and reducing spasm. This is effective for acute and chronic upper back pain and will also ease any burning sensation that may be present.

SPINAL STENOSIS

How we can treat Spinal Stenosis:

How we can treat Spinal Stenosis: Most pain related to spinal stenosis will respond quickly with the correct physiotherapy intervention. Treatment will be focused around reducing spasm and increasing vertebral movement. This is effective for acute and chronic pain and will also reduce any numbness, pins and needles, tingling or other neural symptoms that are sometimes present with spinal stenosis. Improvements should be experienced after your first physiotherapy session.

SCIATICA
(PINCHED NERVE)

How we can treat sciatica:

Most episodes of sciatica will respond quickly with the correct physiotherapy intervention. Treatment is different for each individual as the sciatic nerve can get pinched or trapped in different areas (between vertebrae or in tight muscles in the back or hip). At The Physio Guys, treatment will be focused around reducing spasm and increasing vertebral movement to free the trapped nerve. Improvements should be expected after just one session.

PIRIFORMIS SYNDROME

Piriformis syndrome is a disorder that occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed and/or irritated by the piriformis muscle as it passes through the buttock (gluteal) muscles, resulting in pain. Sometimes the condition is called ‘pseudo sciatica’, as it is often confused with pain in the nerve resulting from a low back disc bulge.

NECK PAIN

How we treat neck pain:

Neck pain usually settles quickly through a variety of physiotherapy techniques with significant improvements expected after just one session. Treatment will be focused around reducing spasm and increasing vertebral movement. This is effective for acute and chronic neck pain and will also reduce any burning sensation or tension headaches that may be present. Physiotherapy will also help the shoulder if this is effected by the muscle spasm.

LOWER BACK PAIN

Lower back pain is the most common condition seen by chartered Physiotherapists. Experts estimate that as much as 80% of the population will experience acute low back pain at some time in their lives. Reoccurrence rates have been found to be extremely high with 60-69% of sufferers having another episode of low back pain. This is because even though the pain may go away after a few days, inflammation and stiffness could still be present along with some muscle spasm and weakness and if not treated properly may hang around.

MIDDLE BACK PAIN

How we treat middle back pain:

Middle back pain generally settles quickly through a combination of physiotherapy techniques with significant improvements expected after just one session. Usually the pain is caused by stiffness in the vertebrae of the spine and muscle spasm. Treatment will be focused around increasing vertebral movement and reducing spasm. This is effective for acute and chronic middle back pain and will also ease any burning sensations that may be present.

JAW PAIN

(TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER OR TMJ PAIN)

The jaw is the most used joint in the body. It is used for talking, chewing, facial expressions, breathing and swallowing. Sometimes a person can experience TMJ pain if the jaw has been over worked, if a person has an overbite or if a person is going through some dental treatment. More recently, TMJ pain has been linked to stress. Pain can radiate around the side of the face and can cause headaches (similar to migraines) and neck pain. Tinnitus or ear ringing can also be associated with TMJ dysfunction.

BULGING DISC (SLIPPED DISC)

How we can treat a bulging disc:

The majority or individuals with bulging discs can be fully rehabilitated through the correct physiotherapy management. At The Physio Guys we expect significant improvements after just one session. Treatment is centred around encouraging the disc to return and remain in the centre of the spine. Scar tissue will form over the weakened disc wall but diligent rehabilitation is necessary for this to happen in the best possible manner.

DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE

Degenerative Disc Disease sounds a lot more horrendous than it actually is. It is not really a disease and it is not strictly degenerative. It is a common age related process and some studies show that as many as 48% of healthy adults between the ages of 20-22 had at least one degenerated disc. Pain can be experienced but is more likely to come from inflammation and stiffness rather than the degenerated disc itself. Physiotherapy will help treat these issues.

BACK SPASMS

How we treat back spasms:

Back Spasms generally settle quickly through a combination of the correct physiotherapy techniques with significant improvements expected after just one session. They can improve with anti inflammatorys but there is a high recurrence rate without physiotherapy intervention as the underlying cause is still present. Treatment will be focused around protecting the affected disc, reducing inflammation and easing the spasm out of the muscles.
